Chaukhana takes its name from the old Indian word for checked cloth — literally, “four boxes”. Here the grid is drawn by hand: black, charcoal and copper lines cross a soft sage-green ground at uneven intervals, and each box keeps its own mark — a bold cross, a tally of three bars, or a solid block of tan, olive, charcoal or black. Worked in a tight wool loop pile that keeps every line crisp, it reads like a page from an old ledger — orderly, playful, and never quite repeating.

Wool is a naturally resilient and self-cleaning fibre — it absorbs spills more slowly than synthetic rugs, giving you time to blot carefully. Because the yarn is left in uncut loops, a loop-pile carpet sheds very little; any light fluff in the first few weeks is normal and will settle with regular vacuuming.
