Sargam takes its name from the seven notes of the Indian musical scale — and this rug is laid out like a piece of music. On one side, short bars of black, mustard and brick red stack up in groups of two and three, each stopping at its own length like notes on a page; on the other, long lines run the full length like a stave, crossed once by a single mustard bar. Hand-woven in a 100% natural hemp sumak weave on a warm mud ground, it is earthy, rhythmic, and quietly joyful.
