Chaukhana takes its name from the old Indian word for checked cloth — literally, “four boxes” — and Gulabi gives it a rose-warm heart. Here the hand-drawn grid is laid over a dusty rose-terracotta ground: black, deep teal and cream lines cross the field at uneven intervals, and each box keeps its own mark — a bold cross, a tally of three bars, or a solid block of olive, cream, black or teal. Worked in a tight wool loop pile that keeps every line crisp, it is warm, earthy, and quietly playful.

Wool is a naturally resilient and self-cleaning fibre — it absorbs spills more slowly than synthetic rugs, giving you time to blot carefully. Because the yarn is left in uncut loops, a loop-pile carpet sheds very little; any light fluff in the first few weeks is normal and will settle with regular vacuuming.
