Named for cinnabar — the deep vermilion mineral prized since antiquity. Cinnabar is a hand-knotted carpet in wool and silk, where molten veins of rust, copper, and burnt sienna run like fire through a ground of ivory, oatmeal, and stone grey. The silk catches the light, so the warm veins seem to glow from within the surface. A statement underfoot, quiet until the light moves across it. This is a piece of art that happens to live on your floor.

Why This Rug

  • Hand-knotted in wool and silk — the most refined, durable, and collectible of all rug constructions
  • Molten veins of rust, copper, and burnt sienna across a ground of ivory, oatmeal, and stone grey
  • Silk highlights catch the light, shifting the warm tones as you move around the room
  • A weathered, marbled pattern — no two areas alike, like fire running through cracked stone
  • Each carpet made to order by a single artisan in Mirzapur over 10 to 12 weeks
  • 60 years of HummingHaus craft heritage from Mirzapur

A Note On Wool & Silk

The silk in Cinnabar is what makes the rust veins glow — silk reflects light where wool absorbs it, so the pattern shifts and deepens depending on where you stand and how the light falls. A hand-knotted wool-and-silk rug is the most enduring construction we make, tightening and growing more beautiful with age. Because silk is finer than wool, we recommend professional cleaning for anything beyond a gentle spot-clean.

Care & Maintenance

Vacuum gently — low suction, no beater bar No soaking or bleach
Spot clean gently — cold water, blot only Avoid direct sunlight to protect the silk sheen
Professional cleaning recommended Rotate periodically for even wear
Use a rug pad underneath Clean spills immediately

A hand-knotted wool-and-silk rug is an heirloom piece — cared for well, it lasts generations and grows more beautiful with age. The silk content makes it more delicate than an all-wool rug, so treat spills gently and lean on professional cleaners for anything deeper. For any queries write to us at humminghaus@gmail.com

Each HummingHaus carpet is made to order by a single artisan in Mirzapur — carrying forward 60 years of family craft. Slight variations in pattern, shape, and colour are not flaws. They are the signature of a human hand.

Questions, Answered

What size rug should I choose for my living room?

For a 3-seater sofa, the 6 × 9 ft Cinnabar is the natural fit — large enough for the front legs of the sofa to rest on it, which anchors the seating area. For an open or larger living room where you would like the whole sofa on the rug, move up to 8 × 10 ft. When you are between two sizes, going up always looks more considered.

Why choose a hand-knotted wool and silk rug?

Hand-knotting is the finest and most durable rug construction — each knot tied by hand, giving exceptional detail and longevity. The wool brings warmth and resilience, while the silk adds lustre and depth, catching the light so the rust and copper tones shift as you move. A piece like this is built to last generations.

Is Cinnabar suitable for homes with kids and pets?

Cinnabar is made from natural wool and silk with no harmful chemicals, so it is safe to live with. That said, the silk content makes it more delicate than an all-wool rug, so it is happiest in living rooms, bedrooms, and formal spaces rather than the highest-traffic or messiest corners of the home.

Can I order Cinnabar in a custom size or palette?

Yes. Every Cinnabar is hand-knotted to order in Mirzapur, so the size can be adjusted to your room and the palette can be shifted to suit your space. Share your dimensions and we will craft it to fit.

How long will it take to arrive?

Because it is hand-knotted in wool and silk, Cinnabar is crafted per order and ships in 10 to 12 weeks. Hand-knotting is slow, deliberate work — the wait is the craft. Shipping is free across India, and you will have updates from loom to door.

How do I clean and care for it?

Vacuum gently on low suction without a beater bar, and treat spills immediately by blotting with cold water — never soak, scrub, or bleach. Because of the silk, we recommend a professional rug cleaner for anything beyond a light spot-clean. Rotating it occasionally keeps the wear even.

Why choose a handmade rug over a machine-made one?

A handmade rug is made by a single artisan, knot by knot, giving it a depth of texture and a longevity machine-made rugs cannot match — many hand-knotted wool and silk rugs outlast the rooms they were first bought for. Slight variations in pattern and colour are not flaws; they are the record of a human hand.
